- Getting Started with the “New Features Workshop”
- From the AutoCAD Help menu select New Features WorkShop
3
- Next select the Design Publisher
4
- With Design Publisher, you can assemble and publish electronic drawing
sets, which you can then distribute via email. Your electronic drawing
set is a single Design Web Format (DWF) file, which can be viewed and
plotted with the Autodesk Express Viewer, a free viewer available for
download on www.Autodesk.com. For greater security, you can also add a
password to your drawing set.
5
- Scenario
- You are an interior designer working on a space plan for a corporate
client. Your client is also working with an interior decorator, who will
be specifying the furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The interior
decorator needs some of your drawings to begin her work. To save time
and the expense of shipping a set of paper drawings, you use Design
Publisher to assemble an electronic drawing set that you can email to
her.
6
- Open the Project Drawings
- You have already started two drawings for your project. One drawing
contains your space plan. The second drawing contains the files from
your consultants. The interior decorator needs drawing sheets or layouts
from both drawings. You use Design Publisher to assemble the drawing
sheets you want to send.
7
- Open Help\NewFeaturesWorkshop\Furniture Set.dwg.
This drawing contains the space plan for your project. The
interior designer needs the Space Plan layout in this drawing.
- Close the drawing without saving changes.
- Open Help\NewFeaturesWorkshop\Consultant Set.dwg.
This drawing contains layouts for the Floor, HVAC, Lighting, and
Power Plans. The interior designer needs some, but not all, of the
layouts in this drawing.
- Save your drawing as My Consultant Set.dwg.
8
- Assemble the Drawing Set
- You can use Design Publisher to assemble layouts from multiple drawings
into a single electronic drawing set.
9
- In My Consultant Set.dwg, on the Standard toolbar, click Publish. In the
Publish Drawing Sheets dialog box, a list of drawing sheets is
displayed. The list of drawing sheets contains all of the layouts in
your drawing.
The interior decorator also needs a layout from Furniture Set.dwg.
- In the Publish Drawing Sheets dialog box, click Add Sheets.
- In the Select Drawings dialog box, select Furniture Set.dwg, and then
click Select to add the layouts in Furniture Set.dwg to your list of
drawing sheets
10
11
- Remove Sheets from Your Drawing Set
- Because the interior decorator only needs a few select sheets, you
remove the unnecessary sheets. Removing the sheets only removes them
from the list of drawing sheets. Removing sheets does not delete them
from your original drawing.
12
- In the Publish Drawing Sheets dialog box, select the sheet My Consultant
Set-HVAC Plan, and then click Remove. The sheet is removed from the list
of drawing sheets.
- To select multiple sheets at once, hold down CTRL and then select the
following sheets:
- My Consultant Set-Power Plan
- My Consultant Set-Model (if listed)
- Furniture Set-Model (if listed)
- Click Remove.
- Verify that the list of drawing sheets now contains only three sheets:
- My Consultant Set-Floor Plan
- My Consultant Set-Lighting Plan
- Furniture Set-Space Plan
13
14
- Reorder the Sheets in Your Drawing Set
- The order in which sheets appear in the list of drawing sheets
determines the order of the sheets in the published drawing set. You can
reorder the sheets in the most logical viewing order
15
- In the Publish Drawing Sheets dialog box, select Furniture Set-Space
Plan, and then click Move Up. Furniture Set-Space Plan is the second
sheet in the list.
- Verify that the sheets are arranged in the following order:
- My Consultant Set-Floor Plan
- Furniture Set-Space Plan
- My Consultant Set-Lighting Plan
16
17
- Publish an Electronic Drawing Set in
Design Web Format (DWF)
- Now that you have your drawing sheets assembled in the order you want,
you are ready to publish your electronic drawing set in Design Web
Format (DWF). DWF files can be viewed and plotted with Autodesk Express
Viewer, which can be downloaded for free.
18
- In the Publish Drawing Sheets dialog box, under Publish To, make sure
that Multi-Sheet DWF file is selected.
- Click Browse.
- In the Select DWF File dialog box, under File Name, enter Decorator Set,
and then click Select.
- In the Publish Drawing Sheets dialog box, click Publish to generate the
DWF file. When the DWF is published, the Publishing Complete message box
is displayed.
19
20
21
- View Your Electronic Drawing Set
- You can view your electronic drawing set (DWF) using the Autodesk
Express Viewer, which was automatically installed when you installed
AutoCAD 2004.
22
- In the Publishing Complete message box, click View DWF File. (To view
the DWF, you can also use Windows Explorer to browse to and open the
file.) Autodesk Express Viewer opens and displays the sheet My
Consultant Set-Floor Plan. You can view and plot only one sheet at a
time.
- In Autodesk Express Viewer, click the list arrow to expand the list of
sheets. In the expanded list, select Furniture Set-Space Plan. The sheet
showing the space plan is now displayed.
- You can zoom and pan within each sheet. For more information about using
Autodesk Express Viewer, see Help in Autodesk Express Viewer.
- When you are finished viewing the drawing set, under File, click Exit to
close Autodesk Express Viewer.
- In AutoCAD, in the Publishing Complete message box, click Close.
- In the Publish Drawing Sheets dialog box, click Close.
- In the List of Sheets Changed message box, click No.
- Close your drawing without saving changes.
23
24
- Wrap Up
- You can use Design Publisher to assemble multi-page drawing sets with
layouts from multiple drawings. You do not need to worry about any
attached xrefs. You can publish an electronic drawing set as a DWF file.
DWF is the best format for exchanging files via email or over the
Internet. DWF files can be viewed and plotted with Autodesk Express
Viewer, a free viewer available for download.
25
- When you need to control who can open and view a confidential drawing,
you can protect it by adding a password. When you password-protect a
drawing, you encrypt the drawing, altering it with a secret code. A
password-protected or encrypted drawing can only be opened by someone
who knows the correct password.
26
- Scenario
- You are a designer in a manufacturing company, working on a welding
fixture that may be patented. Because your drawing is confidential, you
protect it with a password before sending it to the fabricator.
27
- Open a Drawing and Save a Backup Copy
- Open Help\NewFeaturesWorkshop\Welding Fixture.dwg.
- Before you add a password to this confidential drawing, create a backup
copy. A password-protected drawing can be opened only by someone who
knows the correct password. If you forget the password, you won't be
able to open the drawing.
- Back up the drawing by saving it as Patented Welding Fixture.dwg.
28
- Add a Password
- Now that you have a backup copy, you add a password to your drawing.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- In the Options dialog box, on the Open and Save tab, select Security
Options.
- In the Security Options dialog box, on the Password tab, enter test and
then click OK.
- In the Confirm Password dialog box, enter test again, and then click OK.
- In the Options dialog box, click OK. Your drawing is now
password-protected. When you send the drawing to the manufacturer, it
can be opened only by someone with the correct password.
- Save your changes, and close your drawing without quitting AutoCAD
29
30
- Open a Password-Protected Drawing
- To verify the password before sending the drawing to the manufacturer,
you open the password-protected drawing
31
32
- Wrap Up
- You can protect confidential drawings by adding a password. When you
password-protect a drawing, you encrypt the drawing, altering it with a
secret code. A password-protected drawing can be opened only by someone
who knows the correct password.
33
- When you sign a document by hand, your signature gives that document a
certain authority. Anyone reading the document is guaranteed that it
came from you. Digital signatures provide the same benefit for
electronic drawings. A digital signature cannot be forged.
- When you are ready to issue a drawing (for example, a permit drawing),
you can use AutoCAD to attach a digital signature. To attach a digital
signature, you first need a digital ID from a certificate authority,
such as VeriSign.
- Your digital signature is valid as long as the drawing is not changed.
Anyone receiving your drawing can validate it to see that it really came
from you. Anyone receiving your drawing with an invalid signature can
easily tell that it was changed after you attached the digital
signature.
34
- Scenario
- You are a manager in a fabrication company. You have received an
electronic drawing from a client, and you are about to start production.
Because the drawing has a valid digital signature, you are confident
that the drawing has not been changed since it was signed.
35
- Open a Drawing with a Digital Signature
- Open Help\NewFeaturesWorkshop\Frame Assembly.dwg.
- Because this drawing was signed, the Digital Signature Contents window
is displayed as soon as you open the drawing.
- Look at the information in the Digital Signature Contents window.
- The drawing was signed by Jane Smith and has not been modified since she
signed it. The information includes the date and time.
- Click Close.
36
37
- Change a Signed Drawing
- As you are viewing the drawing, you notice that one of the notation tags
is incorrect. You decide to make a correction.
- In the drawing, zoom in on the detail showing three rings.
- Erase the notation 8a and the associated arrow.
- Save your drawing as My Frame Assembly.dwg.
38
39
- Validate the Digital Signature
- Now that you have changed and saved a signed drawing, check the digital
signature.
- On the status bar tray, click Validate Digital Signatures.
- The Validate Digital Signatures message box is displayed. The digital
signature is invalid. The file has been changed after it was signed.
- In the Validate Digital Signatures message box, click Close.
- Close your drawing without exiting AutoCAD.
40
- Validate the Digital Signature
- Now that you have changed and saved a signed drawing, check the digital
signature.
41
- Open a Drawing with an Invalid Signature
- Because you invalidated the signature, anyone opening this file will be
able to tell that it was changed after it was signed.
- Open Help\NewFeaturesWorkshop\My Frame Assembly.dwg.
- Look at the information in the Digital Signature Contents window. The
drawing was signed by Jane Smith, but it has been modified since she
signed it. The digital signature is invalid.
- In the Digital Signature Contents window, click close.
- Close your drawing without saving it.
42
43
- Wrap Up
- Digital signatures provide an extra level of security. Anyone receiving
a digitally signed drawing can validate the signature. Anyone receiving
a drawing with an invalid signature can easily tell that the drawing was
changed after it was signed.
